Enjoying a privileged position on an elevated hillside above a mini ravine, just as you enter the village of Plaka, Alexis Zorba Villa is blessed with sweeping 180 degree views over the seaside village of Almyrida to Souda Bay in the west and the spectacular White Mountains in the south. With only one neighbour to the side which is completely screened by mature greenery, and some town houses across the road to the rear that are hidden by a high wall, Alexis Zorba Villa affords an excellent degree of privacy to its guests despite its village location. A leisurely walk of just 600 meters can find you standing on family friendly sandy beaches, paddling in the crystal clear, azure sea, dining at superb open-air tavernas, or buying fresh local produce from the well stocked shops.
This brand new villa has been recently completed by a first-rate local builder who is a long standing friend with Villas Crete Holidays, having already brought us some of our most popular villas including Clifftop Villa and Villa Azure. Yiannis at Phoenix Constructions has once again done us proud by producing a gorgeous luxury villa that is very well proportioned and beautifully laid out on one level of the terraced plot which follows the natural lie of the land. Flowing effortlessly from one room to the next, the thoughtful design takes full advantage of the magnificent views, ensuring relaxed summer living and a friendly atmosphere.
Well equipped and comprehensively furnished, the stylish interior is bright, airy, and extremely comfortable. Subtle decoration throughout the villa using fashionable soft grey tones with turquoise accents, cleverly allows the glittering Aegean Sea and impressive White Mountains to take centre stage, providing an eye-catching backdrop through the wide balcony doors that are fitted in all four bedrooms and the open-plan living room/kitchen. Every modern amenity has been provided for including free WIFI, a sleek kitchen with a complete inventory, fully tiled shower rooms, air conditioning throughout, a washing machine, dishwasher, satellite TV, a DVD player, as well as a number of useful extras such as a hairdryer, books, and pool towels.
The exteriors are equally attractive and are set on different levels with a choice of sun or shade, sea or mountain views. Unlike most newly built properties, Alexis Zorba Villa has the distinct advantage of being set on a plot of land that was once the colourful garden of an old village house. The terraces around the villa were therefore planted many years ago and now boast enormous typically Mediterranean trees and shrubs including date palms, yukka and conifers, fruit laden lemon and kumquat trees, and vibrant hibiscus and bougainvillea. More recently, 2 silvery-green olive trees in large white pots have been placed on either side of the door into the villa, and a variety of fragrant herbs including rosemary, thyme, and basil, have been put into the raised flower beds near the outside dining area so that they can be freshly picked for use when cooking. The summer kitchen with its built-in barbecue, sink, fridge, work top, and cupboards, sits adjacent to a dining terrace that is shaded by lush grapevines and makes the ideal shady sanctuary for delicious al-fresco meals when summer temperatures are at their height.
On a lower level to one side of the villa, the private swimming pool and sun terrace is accessed via a gate, thus ensuring the wellbeing of the younger members of the family who need adult supervision. The land naturally drops off at the front of the pool terrace and because of the clever safety glass barrier, this is an ideal location from which to admire the superlative view whilst lying on a comfortable sun-lounger soaking up the rays. As with the balconies that run along the front of the villa, there are perfectly unspoilt views of the sea, the mountains, and the glorious sunsets that announce the warm summer nights that Crete is famous for.
Even thoug Alexis Zorba Villa is perfect for larger families, couples and smaller parties have also been taken into consideration with low and mid season prices which give them the option of renting this wonderful villa with only 2 or 3 bedrooms at lower prices. During July and August, however, the villa is only ever rented with 4 bedrooms.
Sitting in private grounds with magnificent views, with a taverna 100m from the villa, and mini-markets and the sandy beaches of Almyrida all within easy walking distance, this modern, well-appointed house would make an excellent choice for anyone looking to keep car use to a minimum.

Since the photos were taken the shower curtains in all of the bathrooms have been replaced with glass screens, a mirror has been placed on the wall above the dressing table of the left rear twin bedroom, the bamboo screen at the side of the pool terrace has been replaced with a custom made screen of grey wood and chrome, the sun-beds and umbrellas have been replaced with pretty new blue ones, railings have been placed in front of the summer kitchen, down the side of the pool steps, and a gate has been placed at the top of the pool steps. All of the living accommodation is on one floor. (1/2 step from the entrance / rear terrace, 15 steps from the gate and parking, 16 steps to the gated pool terrace, 2 half steps to the summer kitchen and barbeque terrace. A wooden gate in the rear wall leads down a flight of steps which is shaded by bougainvillea to the rear terrace which has a gate to the pool terrace, and steps to the barbeque, summer kitchen, and grapevine shaded dining terrace. Half a step leads up to the main door of the villa which opens into the kitchen and open plan living room. The modern kitchen is fully equipped and includes white and black cabinets, black work surfaces a washing machine, a dishwasher, built in oven, a ceramic hob, a large fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, a black glass dining table, 6 off white dining chairs, a wall of shelving with decorative pots, and a window that looks out onto the rear terrace with its many mature trees and plants. The lounge area of the open plan living room and kitchen has a light grey fabric L-shaped couch, matching armchairs (not shown in the photos) a light wood coffee table, book shelves with a selection of books and candle holders, a light wood entertainment unit with a TV, a satellite receiver, a DVD player, and a WIFI hub, pictures, a coat rack, and a large floor to ceiling picture window with a door that opens onto the middle part of the front balcony/terrace. The front balcony/terrace stretches across the entire front side of the villa but is split into 3 private areas by grey glass screens, all of which have panoramic sea and mountain views through the clear safety glass. The middle section has a light grey glass and metal dining table, 8 comfortable light grey dining chairs, a large corner couch with off white cushions, and a rattan coffee table with a glass top. There is a pergola with shade above the front balcony terrace but due to its south and west facing aspect, there is a lot of sun in the afternoons.

In the north east corner of the living area is the door to the north east corner bedroom. This bedroom has 2 single beds which can be combined to make a double bed, 2 pine bedside cabinets, 2 reading lamps, an alarm clock, a chair, a white double wardrobe with hanging space, drawers and shelves, a ceiling fan, 2 windows that look out to the back natural stone wall and driveway, and extra wide double sliding doors that open out onto grass lawn at the rear of the pool terrace. As with all of the bedrooms a door leads to the fully tiled en-suite shower room as before.
The Summer Kitchen and Dining Terrace (2 half steps from the villa, 16 steps from the pool terrace). The summer kitchen has a long stone work surface, a barbeque a sink, a refrigerator, cabinets, and a herb garden. There is a white metal and white glass dining table and 6 dining chairs. The summer kitchen has a grey metal pergola and canvas for shade, and there is a metal pergola covered in a grapevine and white grapes (when in season) above the dining table.
The nearest taverna is just 100m from Alexis Zorba Villa and has the same panoramic sea and mountain views that the villa enjoys. The main square in Plaka is only 600m from Alexis Zorba Villa and is still very much the focal point of village life. There are lovely shady mulberry trees under which the locals sit to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a delicious meal or even just an ice cold frappe. Plaka was one of the original village sets for the film “Zorba the Greek” and it still has quaint whitewashed houses and narrow streets leading off from the square. The modern outskirts of the village have expanded recently as have the facilities, which now include 7 tavernas, 1 Italian restaurant, 6 cafes, 2 well stocked mini markets, 1 shop with local products and gifts, 1 hardware shop, and 1 real estate agency. The lovely village of Almyrida is also only 600m from Villa Phoenix, and is built around a pretty crescent shaped sandy beach, with a small fishing harbour at the eastern end. The beach is very shallow and safe, which is good news if you have children or are not a strong swimmer. Lining the beach are 12 tavernas 1 pizzeria/pasta restaurant, 6 cafes, 2 bars, 6 gift shops, 3 mini markets, 1 jewellery shop, 1 ladies clothes shop, 1 butcher, 1 fruit and vegetable shop with a deli counter, 1 Italian ice cream shop, 3 bakeries/coffee shops, 1 off license, 1 pharmacy, 4 real estate offices, 1 nail spa, a body/wellness spa, a hair dresser, and 1 kiosk. Also in Almyrida there is Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, private boat hire, horse riding, big game fishing, boat trips, private sightseeing flights, water skiing, and guided coach or walking trips, a games area with pool tables and a variety of games machines, a young children’s play centre/crèche with babysitting, a scuba diving office, pedalo and paddle board rentals, and a water sports centre that rents out windsurfers, catamarans, kayaks, and bicycles. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites and traditional villages with wonderful tavernas. There is also an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio and lace makers in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania is only 35 minutes away by car.

Private. A high wall at the rear of the property hides the villa from the road and the apartments on the other side of the road. There is one villa on the right hand side of Alexis Zorba Villa but this is 30m away and there is a custom made grey wood screen and tall trees and shrubs for screening.
An adjacent villa 30m to one side that is screened by greenery, and houses on the other side of the road behind the villa and screened by a high wall.
Villa Rental Prices
The following prices shown in EURO dependent upon the number of guests and bedrooms used. During July and August the villa is only every rented with 4 bedrooms for a maximum of 8 persons. A 9th person could be accommodated in a fold out bed for an extra fee of 50.00 Euro per week.
