We offer you a choice of hiring a private motor boat from either Almyrida, Kalives, or Chania harbours on the North Coast, or you can hire a motor boat on the south coast (just over 1 hour by car from the Almyrida area). Having your own motor boat will give you the chance to explore and go to quiet beaches that are only accessible by boat in addition to more popular locations. Souda Bay on the east side of Chania has beaches, sea caves and inlets including Ombrosgialos turquoise cove that is soon to be a marine park, or Chania Bay on the west side of Chania with beaches and islands including Maherida, Theodorou (a sanctuary for the Kri-Kri goat), Lazaretta, and Menies, and the Rodopou and Gramvoussa Peninsulas.

The incredible south coast has stunning sea caves, crystal clear water that ranges in colour from deep blue to bright turquoise, and many quiet beaches which are only accessible by boat or a long hike. Discover your own private beach and stop off at the glorious Marmara Beach (at the bottom of the Aradena Gorge), Agios Pavlos beach which has black sand and a beautiful chapel (legend has it this is the location where Saint Paul was shipwrecked and brought Christianity to Crete), Sweetwater Beach (popular with nudists), Agia Roumeli (the village at the bottom of the Samaria Gorge), and the absolutely gorgeous harbour village of Loutro. Loutro has been built in traditional Greek style with all of the buildings being white with blue doors and shutters, and the village has rooms for rent, excellent tavernas, and gift shops. Food and drinks are available from tavernas/kantinas at the beaches mentioned above, or you can take a cool box with you for picnicking on a secluded beach of your own.

There are 2 boats available so booking in advance is necessary particularly in high season. Boat 1 has a 30hp engine which can accommodate 6 persons and you do not require a license to rent it. Boat 2 has an 80hp engine and can only be rented by a person who holds a motor boat license. Both boats have a small back-up engine, safety equipment, and insurance. If you would like to fish you will need to obtain a fishing license at least one day before from the Chania port authority for a small fee, 2 passport photos, and ID.
